If you started working from home during the pandemic, you probably had a lot of "making do" with your home setup, especially if it wasn't already set up for you to work from home. If you're still working from home today, you may or may not have ever gotten around to upgrading your home office setup. It's hard to remember that we're no longer "making do" and it's time to upgrade to something that just works. Here are five easy home office upgrades our REALTORS® recommend, and some of them may even help you sell your home.
- Upgrade your outlets.
When your home is also your office, don't forget you have full control over the tech and accessibility you have there. One convenient and easy upgrade to consider is replacing all of your outlet covers so that you have the ability to plug USB devices into the wall to charge. It's an especially nice, modernizing touch we're seeing in some Suffolk County homes for sale.
- Install room-darkening window shades.
It's nice to have that view out your window, but not so nice when it heats your home office or casts a glare on your screen. Room-darkening window shades are useful throughout your home, but especially in your home office to reduce the cost of cooling your home during the day. Plus, many Nassau County homes for sale are more appealing to buyers when they have energy-efficient window treatments installed.
- Add an external monitor and keyboard.
If you work on a company-issued laptop, you may get tired of using only your machine's small keyboard and screen. In addition, typing and viewing the screen on the same level isn't very ergonomic and can cause strain over time. Upgrade to an external monitor and full-size keyboard for a more comfortable work experience.
- Choose ergonomic seating.
How is your desk chair? Could it be contributing to back pain, body aches, or fatigue? If you're spending a lot of time in your desk chair, it's important to assess your chair's ergonomics. If it's encouraging poor posture or failing to support your back properly, it may be time to choose a new one. Be sure to shop locally, so you can sit in the chair and make sure it will meet your needs.
- Raise the bar with a sit-stand desk.
Sometimes the best way to combat the effects of sitting all day long is with a convertible sit-stand desk that will allow you to change the height to suit you. If you're able to spring for the best, an electric sit-stand desk with presets will enable you to quickly put your desk wherever you want it. If that's not an option, there are also desktop units that sit on your existing desk and can be raised and lowered manually.
You spend the majority of your waking hours working, so even if you're working from home, it's important to ensure you'll be able to work comfortably. Tricking out your home office may even add to your home's appeal with buyers. For more information, contact us today.
