6 Tools Every New Home Chef Needs - Howard Hanna | Coach Realtors

Our REALTORS® know that new homeowners usually have to do a little shopping to stock their new homes. One room that many homebuyers choose to stock immediately after they move in is their kitchen. Every home chef should have the following tools in their arsenal of kitchen essentials.

  1. A Quality Knife Set
A quality knife set is one kitchen must-have that every homeowner needs. While knife sets are available with upward of 20 knives, a home chef most commonly uses a chef's knife, serrated knife, and paring knife. You'll also want a set with enough steak knives for your hosting needs.

  2. A Kitchen Scale
A kitchen scale is an inexpensive addition to your home that will improve the final outcomes of your baking and cooking projects. Using a kitchen scale to measure the amount of your ingredients will ensure you're using the correct amounts; a scale is much more precise than using a measuring cup.

Due to a food scale's reliability, your cooking and baking results will also be more consistent. If you're adding your home to the list of Nassau County homes for sale, a food scale can reduce the time it takes to make your favorite recipes.

  3. A Sheet Tray
A sheet tray is a versatile piece of kitchen gear that can be used in several ways. It doesn't take up much space, making it especially important for homeowners with limited storage space.

Sheet trays are perfect for baking cookies, roasting vegetables, or cooking sheet pan dinners. They're fast and easy to clean and come in a variety of sizes. Most chefs prefer a sheet tray with a minimum size of 11 by 15 inches.

  4. A Wooden Cutting Board
When you're shopping for cutting boards, you'll see a slew of options, including glass and plastic alternatives. However, most chefs prefer wooden cutting boards for several reasons.

Wooden cutting boards aren't as slippery as sleek glass or plastic boards; this decreases your risk of accidentally cutting yourself while preparing a recipe. The wood material is also less abrasive on your knives, helping them last longer and stay sharper.

A wooden cutting board is more hygienic, as the material is naturally antiseptic and hinders the growth of microorganisms.

When you aren't using your wooden cutting board, use it as decor in your kitchen. This will add a little flair to your kitchen that will help your home stand out among other Suffolk County homes for sale

  5. A Colander
Draining water from pasta can be a tricky, dangerous task. Make the task safer and less cumbersome by adding a colander to your kitchen.

Colanders make it easy to remove excess water from your pasta, separate broth from its larger components, and wash your produce.

  6. A Set of Nesting Bowls
Nesting bowls are a necessity for any kitchen. Use the bowls to mix ingredients when baking or to serve sides at a dinner or gathering.

Look for a set that includes three to four bowls. When you aren't using the bowls, the nesting design ensures they comfortably fit inside each other, taking up less space in your cabinets.

Stocking a new kitchen can feel like a daunting, expensive endeavor. Instead of purchasing every kitchen item in sight, focus on accumulating classic, versatile pieces. Ready to buy your first home? Contact us to get started.
